Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy is a body-centered healing modality which blends  assisted yoga postures with a simple reflective dialogue to support the client in deepening inner focus, integration of body, mind and spirit, self-awareness, and personal transformation.  No experience in yoga or meditation is necessary.
This modality is  for me a very powerful way of integrating my life work and my love of yoga, and it embodies my beliefs and my experience about the great wisdom of the body,  the important information it provides about our emotions, memories, and answers to life challenges.

I recently have become certified as a Phoenix Rising Yoga Teacher and Group Facilitator as well. I am now offering  individual yoga therapy sessions and yoga  classes, and  I am offering  Groups as well.  The  group program consists of 8 weekly group meetings which are theme-based, with yoga, meditation, mindfulness practices, and a speaking circle to share the experience. About 4 weeks into the program we join in a Silent Day Retreat to explore the relationship we have to ourselves and others. In addition materials and CD's for home practice are provided every week, with the intention of supporting the program participants in developing an ongoing daily practice of their own. Look for more Group dates in 2012.

PHOENIX RISING YOGA THERAPY TO SUPPORT HOLISTIC HEALTH

I have recently come across what has become my favorite definition of stress: “ Stress is wanting things to be the way they are not” ( Michael Lee).So often this is the way we approach our life situations and create unnecessary and harmful emotional and physical symptoms in our bodies and minds.  We then tend to resort to quick-fix responses to manage those symptoms, to get rid of them, only to find out that the underlying causes remain and our overall health is affected.

Taking a more integrative and holistic approach to healing the whole person, thinking of wellness not being limited to the lack of negative symptoms but as the ability to be fully engaged and present to our lives and relationships with balance and mindfulness, is the focus of the Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy approach.

Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy (PRYT) was developed by Michael Lee, an Australian whose life and research led him to investigate the transformative power of Yoga, first of all in his own life. He developed the PRYT modality, focused on the increased awareness and insight Yoga postures can provide, when held for a longer time with a practitioner’s support.

In a one-on-one PRYT session the client is encouraged to explore physical sensations, thoughts, emotions and any arising awareness, while the practitioner assists in holding the Yoga posture. A very minimal reflective dialogue is also part of the session, with the intention of deepening the awareness and insight the client may receive, without interpretation or advice being given. One of the main philosophical tenets of PRYT is that “Everything you need to know is inside of you”, meaning that we all have the capacity to reach within and contact our best and most trusted inner teacher to find answers, direction and focus for our lives.Another key concept of PRYT is that once awareness is present, the next step is to take action to create the changes we want in our lives.
Typically, a one-on-one session lasts one and a half hour, begins with a Centering meditation, followed by assisted traditional Hatha Yoga postures, and ends with a process of Integration, to give the client the opportunity to reflect on what they may have learned about themselves and what the next step will be.PRYT is a powerful body-mind healing modality: its benefits include increased self-awareness, inner focus, greater insight and clarity, stress relief, and the potential for a profound healing of life issues.

Anyone can benefit from PRYT, no Yoga experience is necessary, every BODY can do it! This speaks especially to some mistaken beliefs that only slim and fit women (or men) can do Yoga and that doing Yoga means to stand on your head or have the looks and flexibility of certain magazine cover models; Yoga is not about that and is accessible and beneficial to all of us, no matter our size, age, physical limitations or level of flexibility. In this particular approach especially, the physical body becomes a portal of entry into deeper knowledge and understanding of ourselves. The body holds memories of all of our experiences, emotions, traumas, and through physical touch, stretches and mindful breathing the information stored in our cells can be accessed and released, often providing great relief and clarity to move forward in our process of becoming.
PRYT is also offered as a group modality. Besides one-on-one sessions, there are Phoenix Rising-based Yoga classes, offered as an 8 week series, theme-based, to support self-exploration and practice mindful movement.Michael Lee also developed an 8 week  Group program focused on exploring our relationship to stress. The program includes weekly meetings for the participants, with Yoga, meditation, mindfulness practices and a speaking circle. This modality includes a full day silent retreat as well. All  PRYT modalities are now offered in Key West.

Wether you are beginning the New Year with a health resolution or you are looking for a better ability to deal with stress and a more fulfilling relationship with yourself and others, PRYT can provide you with mindfulness tools and practices that will benefit your whole self.
